Coastal CleanUp '08

The view at the coast

During my free time, I enjoy joining activities which I think is a complete breather from the usual routine that I have. It's always like doing something worthwhile at the same time doing something inordinary.
As I've recalled, I've attended once a coastal cleanup drive organized by our company held in Cordova, Lapu-lapu City, Cebu. I'll never forget the said activity because I was able to enjoy the sceneries at the same time gave something back to Mother Nature.

Environmentalists on the go!

The coastal cleanup was a drive to save the mangrove plantation and marine habitats abounding the shorelines of Cordova, a small barangay within the famous Mactan Island. The latter is known for its world class beaches and resorts and a favorite spot for marine and diving enthusiasts.
It was a lucky day indeed because the sun was not as prickly hot as it was for a normal day when we arrived. There were more than fifty volunteers who willingly shared their time and effort to heed Mother Nature's call. As the sun hid beneath the clouds that day and the tide turned its favor as well, we the volunteers had the greatest time of our lives seeing sea creatures and plants all over the place. With my not so high tech camera, I have had fun getting some nice shots.

Look a starfish!

Doing something for the greater good is far more fulfilling than spending a day in the mall, that's what I've realized after the event. So once in a while, it is best to do activities that will not only bring forth self satisfaction but also expose us to social awareness and responsibility. I already did! So will you?
